ShortForm Hits 1M Monthly Unique Viewers in July & Launches Live Video Parties

VJs host live parties and share curated video channels with viewers who watch simultaneously

August 24, 2011—(SAN JOSE, CA; SAN FRANCISCO, CA)— ShortForm today announced the launch of Live Video Parties which enable VJs to broadcast curated video channels to a live audience. This launch comes on the heels of ShortForm reaching 1M unique viewers of VJ curated channels in July and is the latest innovation from the most social and interactive online video property on the web.

Using ShortForm’s existing web-based video curation platform, up-and-coming VJs have already created thousands of channels, taking video from sites across the web such as YouTube and Vimeo and sequencing them into their own unique mixes. With this latest feature launch, those same VJs can now emulate the magic of an MTV VJ (remember them?) or Tosh.0 by hosting their own live audiences and sharing curated video channels with friends or viewers who watch simultaneously and socialize with one another through chat. A VJ hosting a party can pass the virtual remote to any of the viewers at the party, turning a viewer into a VJ who can play any channel in ShortForm’s extensive channel guide. VJs can modify their selections during a party based on feedback from their viewers and select the videos that are most suitable for their audience.

Live Video Parties build on ShortForm’s current VJ curation platform with a more social and interactive experience. “Live Video Parties represent the next form of expression, socialization, and interactivity in online video” said Nader Ghaffari, CEO, ShortForm. “The first phase was creative online video production, with producers now creating and uploading over 8 years of content each day. This next phase is all about creative VJs who surface videos, organize them into channels, and then share them with live audiences who interact with one another and the VJ while they view.”

Launching in November, ShortForm has seen rapid growth finishing July with 1.6M channel visits. Over the 9 months since launching, ShortForm has been continuously delivering features that make it easy and fun for VJs to curate video channels and features that create a social and interactive experience for viewers. These efforts have led to viewers watching 4-6 times the videos as compared to traditional online video platforms. “Our focus over the last year has been to create the most powerful social video curation platform.” said Stewart Bonn, VP Product, ShortForm. “As a result, we have a VJ community that has produced thousands of highly engaging channels. We are the only company positioned to leverage that community to make Live Video Parties the next form of mass entertainment.”
