It\u2019s come under fire in the US because:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>It tracks <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/corporate-security-leaders-weigh-tiktok-bans-71cba931\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>copious amounts of personal data<\/strong><\/a>, including users\u2019 communications, locations, device models, operating systems, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2023\/03\/10\/tiktok-data-whistleblower-congress-investigators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">search histories, email addresses, and contacts<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>The Chinese government <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/why-is-tiktok-being-banned-7d2de01d3ac5ab2b8ec2239dc7f2b20d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>can access this information<\/strong><\/a> via a 2017 law that compels Chinese companies to turn over data believed to impact national security.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TikTok has strenuously denied sharing user data with the authoritarian government<\/strong>.
