He says that before you can control your enemy, you have to <a href=\"https:\/\/shortform.com\/app\/book\/the-book-of-five-rings\/chapter-2#3-master-yourself-first\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">control and master your limiting personal defects and bad habits<\/a>. Self-control makes you an effective individual and leader and helps you to uphold broader military and social order and inspire your troops. To do this, <strong>keep your mind and body balanced so they work in sync<\/strong>: Maintain good posture to prepare your body for combat, stay calm under pressure so you don\u2019t show your enemy fear, and train your perception so you\u2019re aware of your surroundings.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To avoid perpetuating a cycle of negativity, recognize that your feelings and thoughts aren\u2019t <\/strong><strong><em>you<\/em><\/strong><strong> but, rather, things you experience that come and go<\/strong>. Once you realize this, observe the thoughts at the root of your anger\u2014for example, that you\u2019re furious that the person in the car behind you is on your tail. For example, if you think: \u201cI failed that test, I\u2019m so stupid!\u201d counter this with: \u201cI\u2019m smart.
