When you\u2019re connected with your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/how-to-find-your-true-self\/\">true self<\/a>, you\u2019re able to silence negative thoughts, which Tolle refers to as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/your-ego\/\">your ego<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/how-to-achieve-inner-peace\/\">achieve inner peace<\/a> and happiness. He suggests one method to focus on the present: Practice being fully immersed in an activity such as walking.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2) Let go of what you can\u2019t control<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/does-overthinking-cause-anxiety\/\">Anxiety and overthinking<\/a> happen when you fixate on things outside of your control. Trenton suggests you focus on what you <em>do<\/em> have control over. For example, once you\u2019ve signed a lease for an apartment, rather than worry that you\u2019ve chosen the wrong one, focus on ways to increase your happiness with the one you decided on.
