What truth does the red pill represent? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his book <em>The Unplugged Alpha<\/em>, Richard Cooper describes a phenomenon he calls &#8220;red pill rage.&#8221; By this, he means the anger some men experience when they swallow the red pill\u2014the hard, cold truth about society and dating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s why swallowing the proverbial red pill results in rage, according to Cooper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-consequences-of-swallowing-the-red-pill\"><strong>The Consequences of Swallowing the Red Pill<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Cooper, many men react in anger when they break free from society&#8217;s lies\u2014a phenomenon he refers to as \u201cred pill rage.\u201d Some limit their interactions with women\u2014either by exclusively pursuing sexual relationships with them (and avoiding all other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/3-types-of-relationships\/\">types of relationships<\/a>, such as friendships) or by taking the \u201cblack pill, \u201d which means avoiding them entirely. A small subset of men identifies as \u201cincels,\u201d or \u201cinvoluntary celibates.\u201d Angry at their inability to attract or keep women, incels often act violently: Several self-identified incels have committed mass murder.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>What Happens When You Swallow the Red Pill<\/strong><br><br>Dating coach Alan Roger Currie clarifies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pr.com\/press-release\/842834\">what happens to a man who swallows the \u201cred pill,&#8221;<\/a> or who starts to understand the aforementioned lies. He experiences \u201cred pill rage\u201d because he\u2019s angry both at himself for having naively believed the lies that society taught him and at women for their unfair mating behavior. If he then has a loving, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/successful-relationship\/\">successful relationship<\/a> with a woman, he may revert to the \u201cpurple pill\u201d mindset, which means that he\u2019s aware of the lies but is much less angry towards women because he\u2019s happy with one.&nbsp;<br><br>However, if his \u201cred pill rage\u201d continues, he may take the \u201cblack pill,\u201d which stems from the belief that only genetically gifted males can attract women, so it\u2019s better to just avoid women entirely. Currie argues that a man who identifies as an \u201cincel\u201d has a \u201cblack pill\u201d mindset\u2014and people with this mindset are more likely to suffer from mental health issues that can cause both homicidal and suicidal tendencies.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Cooper warns that <strong>none of these reactions are productive or realistic <\/strong>because they won\u2019t change society, and you can\u2019t avoid women entirely unless you avoid <em>society<\/em> entirely. Rather, Cooper explains that men should adapt to the world: If you want to be successful, you need to forget the lies that society has taught you and become a dominant. Doing so will significantly increase how attractive you are to women. Still,<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/how-to-attract-women\/\">success with women<\/a> shouldn\u2019t be your main <\/strong><strong><em>reason<\/em><\/strong><strong> for pursuing dominant status. <\/strong>Cooper asserts that you should want to become a dominant for <em>yourself<\/em>; success with women is just a fringe benefit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Shortform note: Like Cooper, John Romaniello, coauthor of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harpercollins.com\/products\/man-20-engineering-the-alpha-john-romanielloadam-bornstein?variant=40846098595874\"><em>Man 2.0: Becoming the Alpha<\/em><\/a>, argues you should try to become dominant for <em>yourself<\/em> instead of to get more women.
