Luckily, in <a href=\"https:\/\/shortform.com\/app\/book\/the-obstacle-is-the-way\"><em>The Obstacle Is the Way<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> Ryan Holiday explains that the Ancient Greek Stoics\u2019 problem-solving mindset can help you see the positive side of any situation while avoiding the stress and anxiety that come with seemingly \u201cbad\u201d experiences\u2014ultimately allowing you to uncover God\u2019s guidance as the event unfolds and helping you better understand God\u2019s will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We can condense Holiday\u2019s perspective on the Stoic problem-solving worldview into two basic truths: (1) <a href=\"https:\/\/shortform.com\/app\/book\/the-obstacle-is-the-way\/part-1#truth-1-no-event-is-necessarily-good-or-bad\">no event is inherently good or bad<\/a>, and (2) <a href=\"https:\/\/shortform.com\/app\/book\/the-obstacle-is-the-way\/part-1#truth-2-you-can-choose-to-see-every-problem-as-an-opportunity\">you can choose to see every problem as an opportunity.<\/a> He elaborates that if you interpret all events neutrally, you\u2019ll avoid the anxiety and negative emotions that \u201cbad\u201d situations tend to bring. Then, the absence of negative emotions will give you a higher capability to learn from and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/how-to-overcome-obstacles\/\">overcome obstacles<\/a>. For example, imagine you decide that you want to learn to sing but can\u2019t find an available teacher in town.
