He offers a different perspective to shift your thinking in this area. When you transform your thinking about time, you remove the stress created by the idea that there\u2019s \u201cnot enough\u201d or \u201ctoo much\u201d time. This allows you to feel more peace and abundance in your life and to devote more time to those things that enhance your state of fulfillment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his book <em>The Big Leap<\/em>, Gay Hendricks explains <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/best-time-management-books-blogs-podcasts\/\">how to stop wasting time<\/a> on things that aren&#8217;t worth it. This requires a shift in thinking that involves <strong>changing your concept of time as something <em>outside of you<\/em> that constrains you, to something that comes from<em> within yo<\/em>u and is abundant.<\/strong> He explains the difference in terms of Newton\u2019s and Einstein\u2019s theories, where the Newtonian model is the way we typically think of time, as objective and finite, as opposed to Einstein\u2019s concept of time as relative and subjective.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-38edbb4b-7558-43b8-9baa-2aa2840178aa\">(Shortform note: Reviewers of the book have raised questions about whether Hendricks\u2019s descriptions here accurately represent the theories of Newton and Einstein. Some fairly simple shifts you can make are: Try focusing your attention fully on the present moment, spend less time <em>thinking<\/em> about doing things and more time <em>doing<\/em> them, and don\u2019t get distracted by the \u201csmall stuff\u201d that wastes time.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-9bc7129c-38ae-4157-9ad2-a6e0c2e851ed\">A concept of time based on Einstein&#8217;s model would mean understanding that time is relative to our experience of it. Depending on what we\u2019re doing, it can feel like it goes faster or slower\u2014we\u2019ve all had this experience. Time seems to drag when you\u2019re waiting for medical test results, but flies by when you\u2019re on vacation. Hendricks argues that this is due to how your attention is focused. <strong>When you fully focus your attention in the present moment, you can use the time more deliberately<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-7936625e-0a46-4c01-9854-4b4ca77f0a14\">You can use this relativity to your advantage by realizing that you control your <em>experience<\/em> of time;&nbsp; thus, simply understanding time from this new mindset will be a positive step toward eliminating the constant feeling of rushing from our lives.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-7c25dbbe-9e25-44e1-954b-00469b51991b\">As a practical step, Hendricks suggests you can begin by changing how you speak about time. Notice where you complain about time, for example how often you say you \u201cdon\u2019t have time\u201d to do something. Usually when we say this we really mean we don\u2019t<em> want<\/em> to do it. It\u2019s more about our priorities. If something is important you\u2019ll \u201cmake time\u201d for it. According to Hendricks, this means you can always make time. So, as a first step in changing your perception of time, Hendricks urges you to eliminate any complaining about time, or reference to time constraints, from your language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/is-time-just-an-illusion\/\">Time Is an Illusion<\/a><\/strong><br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/shortform.com\/app\/book\/the-secret\"><em>The Secret<\/em><\/a> discusses <a href=\"https:\/\/shortform.com\/app\/book\/the-secret\/chapter-12#time-is-on-your-side\">time as an \u201cillusion\u201d and offers suggestions for how to re-conceptualize time<\/a>, in much the same way as Hendricks describes. In this case, it\u2019s rooted in the concept of the \u201claw of attraction,\u201d which is the principle that everything you experience is a product of, and determined by, your thoughts; in other words, \u201cwhat you think about, you bring about.\u201d This is based on the idea that everything in the universe is energy, including your thoughts. So when you have a thought, you\u2019re putting that specific energy out into the universe, and that will attract the same kind of energy. In this way, we all create our reality with the power of our thoughts, and therefore we can change our reality simply by changing our thoughts.&nbsp;<br><br>So, according to this principle, if you think you have limited time, you will in fact have limited time.
