The concept originated in the 1937 book <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/think-and-grow-rich-secret\/\">Think and Grow Rich<\/a><\/em>, by Napoleon Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This article covers how to form a mastermind group, how to work with an accountability partner, and how to form a support team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Form a Mastermind Group<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many successful people use mastermind groups\u2014<strong>five or six people who convene regularly to confidentially help each other navigate challenges and reach their professional or personal goals.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joining or forming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/the-mastermind-group-2\/\">the mastermind group<\/a> gives you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Access to resources such as knowledge, and fresh perspectives<\/li><li>Access to the networks of the people in your group<\/li><li>The ability to go faster and farther with your goals<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of a mastermind group draw on each other\u2019s support, as well as energy from a higher power\u2014God, or however you refer to a greater power. When people gather for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/team-purpose\/\">shared purpose<\/a>, they\u2019re able to channel energy they get from this power toward their endeavors and goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are two questions to keep in mind when forming a mastermind group:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Should the focus be professional or personal?<\/strong> Both kinds of groups are useful.<\/li><li><strong>Should the group include people from the same profession or a variety of professions? <\/strong>Sometimes people in the same industry can get locked into the same ways of thinking about their field. Including people from different fields with different areas of expertise can create more varied approaches and solutions to problems. On the other hand, people within an industry tend to know it best and may have dealt with similar problems. Either way, choose people who are ahead of or above you professionally\u2014interacting with people who are where you want to be will motivate you to get there.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conduct a Meeting<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For the first few meetings of your mastermind group, ensure that everyone has a chance to get to know everyone else by focusing on one group member at each meeting. Plus, they may offer enthusiasm that motivates you to follow through. Ideally, you\u2019re each committed to the other\u2019s success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Form a Support Team<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Professionals of all kinds benefit from having a support team that can advise and help them live their best lives. Who is on your support team depends on your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/the-stages-of-life\/\">stage of life<\/a> and your goals. For example, athletes may consult doctors, chiropractors, and nutritionists, while a teen\u2019s support team might include their parents.
