Are you wondering how to change your diet plan without giving up?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you give up on your diet, you might have better luck figuring out how to change your diet to something more sustainable. Sometimes when we set our initial diet plans, we can be overzealous and strict on ourselves. But that doesn&#8217;t mean we should give up on them, it just means the diet plan needs adjusting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Continue reading on how to change your diet plan from <em>Never Binge Again.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Adjusting the Food Plan<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you want to change your diet plan? Here\u2019s when adjusting changing your food plan makes sense:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If you feel your Food Plan is too strict to meet your nutritional or happiness needs.<\/li><li>When you get new information about how to eat to better meet your goals.<\/li><li>When you better differentiate your pleasures from the Pig\u2019s toxic impulses.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But changing the Food Plan requires a series of thoughtful steps, much like amending the US Constitution requires a drawn-out process, for good reason. <strong>Don\u2019t change your plan day to day without major thought and commitment\u2014otherwise the Pig might be writing your plan.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are steps to take:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If you\u2019ve binged, let the binged food pass through your system so you\u2019re not under its influence. Do not let <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/immediate-gratification-2\/\">instant gratification<\/a> change how you\u2019ll behave in the future. In the meantime, follow your previous Food Plan.<\/li><li>Make a copy of your previous Food Plan and date it. You might revert to this plan later.<\/li><li>Propose new changes to your plan on paper. <strong>Articulate specific reasons for each one.<\/strong><ul><li>Any Conditional that you repeatedly binge on might be better off as a Never<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Review your previous food plans. Were any of them better? Did the Pig convince you to abandon a perfectly good plan?<\/li><li>Make sure the new rules are still 100% clear and unambiguous. Don\u2019t allow the Pig any vagueness.<\/li><li>After a serious analysis, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/self-forgiveness\/\">forgive yourself<\/a>, and make a 100% confident, renewed commitment to perfectly follow your Food Plan forever.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When the Pig Squeals<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pig in your brain complains a lot to get you to binge again. It provokes thoughts, feelings, or impulses to revert to your bad habits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Since you\u2019ve committed NEVER to binge again, any squeal <\/strong><strong><em>must<\/em><\/strong><strong> be coming from the Pig.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hard squeals to recognize, and how to deal with them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Just a Little Bit Pig Squeals<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You\u2019re getting really good at this, so I can\u2019t do much harm anymore. Let me out so we can binge safely just a little, then lock me up whenever you feel like it.&nbsp;<\/li><li>You\u2019ve been doing so well for a month! You deserve a binge!<\/li><li>You can binge once out of every ten meals. It won\u2019t kill you! It\u2019ll make it so much easier!<\/li><li>Just this one last time&#8230;please?! We\u2019ll start again tomorrow!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Response:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Give the Pig an inch and it will take a mile, and you know it.<\/strong> Binging even once makes it so much easier to fall downhill all the way back to where you started.<\/li><li>You need to aim for 100% perfection on your food plan at all times.<\/li><li>There is no need for Cheat days. This implies breaking the rules, and you don\u2019t want to give yourself ANY lenience. If you must, make it a Conditional.<\/li><li>This is worth 100% completion on. If you were constructing a building, you wouldn\u2019t knock down a floor after you built two, would you?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fighting Your Inner Voice (Pig Squeals)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Pig Squeal: <\/em>You should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/how-to-always-be-grateful-for-what-you-have\/\">be grateful for what you have<\/a>. Wanting things is the enemy of happiness!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Response: It\u2019s true that I should be grateful to be content. But this doesn\u2019t mean that I shouldn\u2019t have any goals. Otherwise, there would be no learning or growth whatsoever. I can balance gratitude with ambition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Pig Squeal: <\/em>You can exercise it off later today. Or maybe you already exercised, and so you deserve a little binge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Response: It doesn\u2019t matter how much exercise you did. The plan is the plan, a binge is a binge. Nothing justifies breaking the food plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Pig Squeal: <\/em>I\u2019m not an idiot. I\u2019m in your brain, so I\u2019m just as smart as you are. You need to listen to my intelligent arguments for Binging!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Response: You must treat the Pig like an idiot. It uses your intelligence for destructive purposes only. It is NOT thinking for the best of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Shortform note: consider treating the Pig like it\u2019s a sociopath whose only goal is to manipulate you to do what it wants. You don\u2019t want to be made the better of, do you?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Pig Squeal: <\/em>I might not get you now, but I\u2019ll get you later! You\u2019ll slip up at some time, like Thanksgiving, or Tom\u2019s birthday party, or when your boss yells at you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Response: The easy way to never binge again is to never binge now\u2014at all times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The difference between that attitude and the \u201cone day at a time\u201d attitude is that the latter implies powerlessness\u2014\u201call I can control is today.\u201d The former is power: \u201cI Never Binge Now therefore I will Never Binge Again.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is your current food plan not working for you?
