Create processes that make habits out of doing what you want done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Help people understand the purpose of the work you\u2019re asking them to do, and make sure the steps and standards are clear. Review the company\u2019s objectives, standards, strategy, philosophy, and operations manual. Exemplify the behavior you want to see from your employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The work environment and rules you create for accomplishing the company\u2019s purpose can be likened to a game in which everyone participates and tests their skills and talents. Communicate your business\u2019s \u201cgame\u201d (its purpose and method of achieving it) to each employee when you start your relationship. How you do this is your personnel plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some guidelines for establishing and communicating your game (purpose and methods):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Establish the parameters at the beginning.<\/li><li>Be willing to play your own game (set an example, for instance, by how you treat customers).<\/li><li>Create opportunities for people to \u201cwin\u201d or succeed and be recognized, although the game is always ongoing.<\/li><li>Constantly remind people of the game (purpose).<\/li><li>To keep it interesting, change tactics (methods) occasionally, although your overall strategy must remain the same.<\/li><li>Make playing the game (achieving your business\u2019s purpose) fun.<\/li><li>Make it logical. For example, here\u2019s the logic of a hotel\u2019s \u201cgame\u201d: In today\u2019s chaotic and busy world, people need a place of order and calm. Our business can fulfill this need by creating a special place, where the physical environment and everything we do contributes to a sense of order.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your Hiring Process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your hiring process is a critical piece of your personnel plan and crucial to achieving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/your-life-purpose\/\">your purpose<\/a>. It\u2019s your first opportunity to communicate your purpose to potential employees.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an example, consider a hotel owner who follows a carefully designed and scripted process of choosing, hiring, and orienting employees. It includes a presentation in a group meeting to all applicants, followed by an individual meeting to discuss each applicant\u2019s reactions to the ideas presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new employee\u2019s first day of training includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A review of the business owner\u2019s purpose and methods.<\/li><li>A summary of the system for carrying out the business\u2019s purpose.<\/li><li>A tour of the facility, accompanied by an explanation of each person\u2019s job.<\/li><li>A question-and-answer period.<\/li><li>A presentation of the uniform and operations manual.<\/li><li>A review of the manual, position contract, and business objectives.<\/li><li>A discussion of how the business does things (rules of the game).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The centerpiece of your personnel plan is the clear communication\u2014<em>to<\/em> and <em>by<\/em> your people\u2014of your way of doing business.
