So, why do nutritionists recommend eating them? The reason is that the fat contained in healthy nuts and seeds is a good type. Where do the high calories from nuts go?<ul><li>70% of nut calories displace other foods.<\/li><li>10% of calories are not absorbed by the gut.<\/li><li>20% may come from nuts boosting metabolism.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Walnuts<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Have the highest antioxidant and omega-3 levels and suppress cancer proliferation&nbsp;<em>in vitro<\/em>.<\/li><li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJMoa1200303#t=article\">PREDIMED study<\/a>&nbsp;showed the Mediterranean diet with nuts reduced stroke risk by 50%, and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/bmcmedicine.biomedcentral.com\/articles\/10.1186\/1741-7015-11-164\">lowered all-cause mortality risk by 39%<\/a>, while olive oil did not reduce all-cause mortality.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Peanuts<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Women at high risk for heart disease who eat nuts or peanut butter daily halve their risk of heart attack compared to non-eaters.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pistachios<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Erectile dysfunction is an early sign of vascular disease and can predict heart disease.<ul><li>40 over 40 rule: 40% of men over age 40 have erectile dysfunction.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>3 to 4 handfuls of pistachios a day for 3 weeks show improvement of erectile function by 50%<\/li><li>The Nurses\u2019 Health Study show pistachios can also improve female lifespan.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Flaxseeds<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Contains lignans and omega-3 fatty acids<\/li><li>It\u2019s best to blend flaxseeds for better digestion.
