You can somewhat lower your risk of depression by eating healthy and exercising regularly.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is how to lower your risk of depression naturally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Causes <strong>Depression<\/strong>?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The definitive cause of depression is unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The monoamine theory suggests that depression arises from the relative depletion of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The enzyme monoamine oxidase breaks down monoamines; people with depression show higher levels of this enzyme.<\/li><li>Tryptophan is an amino acid and precursor to serotonin. Depletion of tryptophan worsens mood.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to Reduce the Risk of Depression<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Disclaimer: there are big confounds with associative studies between mood and diet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Vegetarians tend to have a lower risk of depression than omnivores.
