Similarly, individuals and families must succeed to have security, confidence, satisfaction, and growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People who downplay the importance of success are sometimes rationalizing their own failures. No one benefits when you fail or quit, but when you accomplish something important, you and everyone around you gain\u2014and it lays the groundwork for further success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Success Is Your Duty<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Cardone\u2019s life changed when he stopped waiting for success and began thinking of it as an ethical obligation\u2014that is, as a duty to himself, his family, and his company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People often think of success as an option, something that may or may not happen. Others settle for modest success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/how-to-measure-success\/\">idea of success<\/a> as an obligation struck Cardone in 2008 when the recession put his company, personal finances, and family\u2019s security in jeopardy. He realized he\u2019d let this happen by becoming complacent after achieving several successes. He\u2019d rested on his laurels rather than focusing on continued success as a duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who treat success as an option or who make excuses for not succeeding aren\u2019t living up to their potential. And <strong>not living up to your potential is unethical.<\/strong> This applies to every aspect of life: work, marriage and family, health, faith, social contribution, and legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should think of success the way good parents think of parenting: it\u2019s an honor, a duty, and a priority, and they do whatever it takes to care for their children. Success is your duty and should be prioritized accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you begin thinking of success as your responsibility rather than an option, you behave differently. You take the idea of living up to your potential\u2014creating 10X success\u2014seriously because it not only affects you, but also your family, company, coworkers, and colleagues. And because failing to do so is unethical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Supply of Success Is Unlimited<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>People sometimes think of success as being in limited supply\u2014that someone else\u2019s success somehow limits theirs. Or perhaps one person\u2019s achievement makes a less successful person feel inadequate, so they think of success as available only to a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But one person\u2019s achievement doesn\u2019t limit anyone else\u2019s ability to succeed. Success isn\u2019t a commodity. For example, Warren Buffett doesn\u2019t see his investment success as being limited by someone else\u2019s strategy. Nor does Buffett&#8217;s success hinder anyone else\u2019s ability to be successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Successful people like Buffett understand that <strong>you create success rather than acquire it. And there\u2019s no limit on the success ingredients of ideas, creativity, talent, intelligence, and persistence<\/strong>. You and millions of others can create as much success as you\u2019re capable of, anywhere at any time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others\u2019 achievements affirm that success is possible for everyone. That\u2019s why we\u2019re inspired by extraordinary performances by athletes and musicians. Don\u2019t begrudge anyone their success\u2014let it motivate you to let go of limiting thoughts and create more success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Treat Success as Your Duty<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>People often think of success as an option, something that may or may not happen.
