Therefore, the sooner the man realizes it\u2019s happening, the better things will be for him and for the people he loves. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/johncorcoran\/2015\/03\/26\/the-work-life-balance-lesson-we-learn-from-stephen-kings-desk\/?sh=2bc39d365d79\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">For example<\/a>, horror author Stephen King has spoken about how his obsession with his work nearly cost him his family, and he\u2019s said one of his biggest regrets is that he didn\u2019t recognize that problem sooner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Tip: Get Ego Out of the Way<\/strong><br><br>It\u2019s important for people to recognize when their psyche is badly imbalanced, but how do they do that?&nbsp;<br><br>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/app\/book\/ego-is-the-enemy\/1-page-summary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Ego Is the Enemy<\/em><\/a>, self-help author Ryan Holiday gives one suggestion: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/app\/book\/ego-is-the-enemy\/part-3#let-your-low-moment-transform-you\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Use failure as a chance to learn<\/a>. When someone fails at something, whether it\u2019s a professional goal or a personal task, it\u2019s a sign that something is wrong. Therefore, the person should carefully consider what happened and how their own shortcomings contributed to the failure.&nbsp;<br><br>However, Holiday also warns that too much pride\u2014in his terms, too much ego\u2014will make that impossible. A person\u2019s ego will only consider what they did well, and it will blame anything that went wrong on other people.&nbsp;<br><br>For instance, if a man gets into a shouting match with his wife, that\u2019s a failure of communication. Perhaps it happened, at least in part, because the man was trying to overpower his wife instead of really talking to her. In that case, the best solution would be to use empathy to better understand his wife\u2019s point of view.&nbsp;<br><br>However, if the man is caught up in his own ego, he\u2019s likely to see the fight as only his wife\u2019s failure, not his own, and his only concern will be with \u201cwinning\u201d their next fight.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What does healthy masculinity look like?
