To do this, Harris would argue that you must <a href=\"https:\/\/shortform.com\/app\/book\/the-happiness-trap\/part-2-principle-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">be connected with your \u201cobserving self<\/a>.\u201d He makes a distinction between your thinking self (which judges and interprets situations) and your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortform.com\/blog\/observing-self\/\">observing self<\/a> (which is simply <em>aware<\/em> of situations).
