The report, which surveyed 6,600 adults from all 50 states, found that the proportion of Americans who identify as \u201creligiously unaffiliated\u201d has risen steadily<\/a>. Between 2006 and 2023 that number rose from 16% to 27%, and the proportion who said religion is the most important thing in their lives declined at a similar rate. The research also found that more than half (57%) of respondents seldom or never attend religious services\u2014a 14-point increase from a decade ago\u2014and 24% have changed religious affiliation, with most of those leaving Christianity or religion altogether.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
